Getting in Shape for Turkey Day!

Several Panthers are planning to run a Turkey Trot in whatever city they plan to celebrate Thanksgiving. Some Turkey Trots are 5k (3.1 miles), some are 4 miles and some are 5. Regardless, this plan should work for you. If you're a newbie, don't worry, you can do it. Your goal should be to finish the distance at the best pace you can manage, even if that means walking.

Please see the links on the right side of the blog. These are some local Turkey races. If you are planning to participate in a different race, let us know and we'll post it.

If you're a long time runner, please be sure to encourage our new runners.

Here's a Training Plan for a Turkey Trot in 5 weeks! You’ll be hitting the pavement/treadmill 3 times a week for 5 weeks. You can do it. Be sure to have a great pair of running shoes, dress for the weather, stay hydrated and don’t quit!

Long time runners, if you have suggestions or tips, please post them under the comment section.

If anyone is looking for a running buddy, please post under comments too. If you're hitting a certain trail, let us know, so we can join you!

Bob and Nicole ran the columbus marathon on october 18. Ya! I think Julie ran the half? Is that right?

Stu runs a trail marathon on October 25.

I'm just trying to get ready to beat scuba man at the Miamisburgh Turkey Trot. Ya, man wears a full scuba suit with flippers and he beats me every single year!

Penny is signed up for a 4 miler on Thanksgiving day. She lives in HIlliard and could use a running buddy.

Roni and Abi plan to do a race on Turkey day.

Amber and Vickie are doing one too but I don't know which race.

Elaine and Ptail might do a race.

Let's get inspired!

Amber and I are doing the Flying Feather 4-Miler in Dublin. We would love the company! Warning-I am a slow runner so if you are fast you will only get the pleasure of my company for a short time!

I did not end up running the half marathon last Sunday..too sick and too many injuries :( I jsut took my running partner down and cheered her on. This was a rotten running year for me..strep throat before the half in teh spring, injury after injury, head and chest colds...Hoping 2010 will be a better year. I did sign up myself and WD, Nicole and Ty for the Turkey Trot and gobbler's race at Corazon on Thanksgiving. I think the kids run is a bit short for Nicole, but she can be a big sister and help Ty.
I'm glad to see Coach Em encouraging everyone to give running a try..it is very therapudic!!!

Does anyone know if they have a walker race? If so, I am pretty sure I would do well. I am getting to be a real pro with hopping and scooting! Running is pretty far off for me for a while but I will cheer you all on!
