Marathon Wrap up - looking forward

Marathon: Congrats to Bob and Stuart for crushing the Columbus Marathon!

Thank you to all the volunteers - it's a wonderful thing that you did for the community and for the racers.

Looking forward: Hey, now that we're inspired (after volunteering at the marathon), let's sign up for an event! Per Bob's suggestion...let's take a look at this race on Nov. 9!
  • Race Name: Trot for Tots
  • Cause: raises money for Hospice @ Nationwide CHildren's Hospital.
  • Distance: It's a 3K and a 10K. (The 3K is just under 2 miles).
  • Location: Coffman HS
  • Time: Starts at 1 PM
  • Cost: Pre-registration before 11/3 is $20 and if you group 3 people together it's only $15.
  • Website: www.columbusrunning.com/t3.htm.

Keep training: We're all tired. I am zonked but I'll plan to meet y'all at 5:00 at the gym. Even if you're too tuckered to participate, come on over and say hi to the group. You can walk if you don't want to run today. If you don't want to move at all, just hang out at the tree and clap for the gang. You've been a great support for each other.

Well, I write sitting at the Panera after a wonderful 1.6 mile walk with my new friends, the Panther Moms! It was very nice to put a face to your names!

I am totally up for the Trot for Tots! I prefer races with a charitable slant. I like to think that my pain (lol) is for a good cause.

Watching all the runners at the aid station today re-amped me to start training again. While I do not necessarily enjoy running, I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when I've completed a race. Being able to say I did a 3K, 5K, 10K, Half-Marathon or Marathon is an achievement in and of itself and one that many people cannot say. That's all I kept saying to myself as I yelled encouragement to the runners today, "You're doing something that I am not."

I won't be able to make next Sunday's parent meet as I'll be coming back from Miami, FL...yes, I know you all are jealous ;-)

But keep it up! I heard a lot of good motivation out there today!

Sorry I missed training tonight. Was getting ready to head over when Heather called about Diana's ankle. At least it's only a sprain, that's the good news.

I'm sure I would have ended up walking today anyway because I feel like I've been hit by a truck. Bob and Stu are absolutely amazing to me! Great job you two!

I think I'm in for Trot for Tots. Sarah will probably run it too.

Elaine, we'll miss you next week. Someday we'll land in the same place at the same time. Great seeing you today though!

Hang in there! What is this? Week 3?

Bob and Stu did awesome today!!!

Debra - glad that Diana's ankle is going to be okay.

I think the Trot for Tots will be great. I would love to run the whole thing. I am going to try going to a track to run this way I will actually know how far I went instead of just how long a ran/walked.

I have also found that running is a great stress reliever for school. On Sat. I had to write 2 papers and as I sat in front of the computer fighting writers block I decided to go for a run. It really helped to clear my head.

I will be so proud of all of us for doing this 3K, who would have thought me a long distance runner!!!!!

I am sorry I didn't come to our training yesterday. I had to get to the grocery and take a nap before the Exhibition :) I did run TWO MILES on Saturday. But now my ankle hurts. I think I overdid it. But I love the sense of accomplishment of pushing myself - I guess a little too far.

Unfortunately I am going to be in Florida on the 9th. We are going down for a long weekend for Todd's 40th birthday! But I will keep running!

Oh yeah! Sign me up for the race. I can't wait to get out there with you guys!
Deborah - Sara is the one who kept pushing me in the begining to run and promising me that it would get easier when I definately didn't think that it ever would. Sign her butt up, I can't wait to run with her! We'll race and then head to the gym.

Hello to all-

It looks like a beautiful day outside. I am going to try to sneak in a run right after work today since I didn't yesterday.

I am up for November 9th also. Bob, Stu and Julie are inspirations to us all. Congrats to all of the marathon runners!

I mentioned the 3K to Sarah today and she's all for it. The first thing she said was, "Can I run it?"

I don't think I'll be able to run the whole thing by then, but I'll do my best. Besides, gotta start somewhere.

We'll miss you, Katie. I'm sure I'll be thinking of you, lounging in the sun in Florida with a fruity drink in your hand, as I'm gasping the crisp November air. :)

Wow, we're getting quite the little pack together!

Bob thanks so much for the advice that you gave me today. I slowed my running pace down and I was able to run 1 mile straight. I was trying to do 1.5 but my calves and hips started getting sore so I decided to walk the last .5 miles. Emily I also followed the breathing that you showed us and the two combined together really worked.

Bob told me that to become a long distance runner you have to focus on distance and not speed. I went to the track so that I would know exactly how far I had run. I was super excited when I finished the mile and thought about pushing myself but decided it was best not to kill myself.
